Walking For The Homeless

Last Saturday (11/17/07) Nancy, Justin, Dylan, and I walked HomeWalk a 5k walk to promote the end of homelessness in Los Angeles County. We wanted to show our kids to be involved in community events and teach them to be people with compassion for society. We walked as a part of the Deloitte Team. Out team was named Ferocious Robeez. We had to wake up around 7:30am to get started. We first went to a meet and greet breakfast held by Nancy's company. The thing that was odd or actually more uncomfortable was during breakfast while us white collar privileged folks were eating our bagels and drinking our Starbucks coffee homeless people would come up to the tables asking if they could eat and the Deloitte staff would have to turn away these people saying that it was for only Deloitte staff. Now...here we are to walk for the homeless yet we are turning away these people. Kind of ironic eh? The good thing is at the end of the day they did open it up to anybody who wanted any. Justin made a new friend named Caylin. He is the son of one of Nancy's co-workers.Here is the beginning of the 5k walk. Here is Justin walking with his new friend and his parents. At the mid point of the walk I was fortunate enough to meet Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and take a picture with him. Here is our team walking together and making our way towards the finish line. Here is everybody giving their victory poise after finishing the race. And finally just a picture of Dylan giving me a love bite. He loves it.
